On the evening of the 4th of July, many cities host extravagant fireworks shows, where families gather at dusk to watch fireworks explode in the sky. Fireworks displays are sometimes choreographed to music, especially patriotic songs such as the national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, and Yankee Doodle.

Fireworks for the 4th of July are primarily the colors of the USA: red, white, and blue. Producing light, noise, and smoke, is the main effects of fireworks, but pyrotechnic professionals can create various styles and shapes of explosions. Fireworks shows typically last about an hour, ending with a finale, which is when fireworks are set off in rapid succession, illuminating the entire sky with brilliant lights.

The fireworks displays for the 4th of July are the biggest and most impressive fireworks shows all year in the United States. Many of the largest fireworks displays are broadcast live on television and the internet.

The use or purchase of fireworks for personal use is illegal in many areas of the United States because they can be dangerous and can potentially injure someone. Some states do allow the sale of particular types of fireworks that generally do not project off the ground, and are relatively safe, such as sparklers, bottle rockets, roman candles, smoke balls, and strobes.

The oldest signer of the Declaration of Independence was Benjamin Franklin who was 70. The youngest was Edward Rutledge at 26 years old.
