Uruguay River was originally named as Urugua'y in the Guarani language, which meant the "river of the painted birds". The Uruguay River is a South American river, which flows across the country from the north towards the southern regions. This River of Uruguay makes a kind of boundary line between this Latin American nation and its neighboring countries, like Brazil and Argentina. The Uruguay River separates some of the provinces of Argentina from those of Brazil and Uruguay.
The Uruguayan River passes through the states of Rio Grande do Sul and that of Santa Catarina in the land of Brazil. This river satiates all the aquatic needs of the country of Uruguay. It forms one of the eastern borders in the Corrientes province, the Misiones province and the Entre Rios province in Argentina. The Uruguay River also makes up for the west border region of the various departments belonging to Salto, Artigas, Paysandu, Soriano, Rio Negro and Colonia in the South American country of Uruguay.
The Uruguay River measures almost one thousand five hundred kilometers in length with its initial points at the Serra do Mar in Brazil. Along with Parana River, this river in Uruguay forms the Rio de la Plata estuary. The main tributary of the river is Rio Negro, with the latter being born in the southern regions of Brazil. The Rio Negro river travels a distance of five hundred kilometers before merging with the Uruguay river.
