The legislature of Uruguay follows the bicameral system. The General Assembly has 2 chambers. The upper chamber is known as the Chamber of Senators. The lower chamber is known as the Chamber of Deputies. The Chamber of Deputies consists of 99 members. All members are democratically elected to the post. The upper chamber or the Chamber of Senators has 31 members. The Vice-President of Uruguay takes a leadership role of the members constituting the upper chamber. The members of the Chamber of Senators are elected to the post by proportional representation.
