The Hay Festival is a book lovers’ delight, and would be running from 26th May to 5th June for the year of 2011. The event is set to be attended by some top names from the world of literature, such as VS Naipaul, Paul Nurse, JMG le Clezio and Mohammed ElBaradei, along with historians Eric Hobsbawm, Bettany Hughes, Michael Wood, and Niall Ferguson.

Also present at the event would be broadcasters Chris Evans, Kevin McCloud, Jenni Murray, and Evan Davis and actors Vanessa Redgrave, Gillian Anderson, Ralph Fiennes, Simon Russell Beale and Rob Lowe. Top writers such as Paul Theroux, Michael Morpurgo, Linda Grant, Jacqueline Wilson and Malorie Blackman would also be there.

Hay Festival Venues
The 2011 Hay Festival would be held across four main venues - Barclays Wealth Pavilion, Llwyfan Cymru - Wales Stage, Oxfam Stage, and Elmley Foundation Theater.

Hay Festival History
In the last 10 years, the Hay-on-Wye Festival has become a global nonprofit entity which operates a number of festivals and projects across the United Kingdom - in Hay-on-Wye, Belfast and London. It also runs festivals at Segovia in Spain and at Cartagena de Indias and Bogota in Colombia. The events in Lebanon and Kenya were launched in 2009.

The Hay festivals at Kerala India, Zacatecas Mexico and Maldives were added in 2010, and in 2011 Cape Town in South Africa, Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales and Xalapa in Mexico are set to be included. In 2009, Hay Festival received the Queen's Award for International Trade.

The attendees at the Hay Festival can avail the various hotels and bed and breakfast lodges in the vicinity of the festival site. Hay Festival Events
Following are some important events that would take place at the Hay Festival 2011.

Genesis: On 26th May, Nicholas Lowton, Rhoda Lewis and Peter Florence would start a 4-day reading session of the King James Authorized Version of the Bible. The event would be staged at the Barclays Wealth Pavilion and there would be two 4-hour sessions on a daily basis. Entry is free but the attendees would require a ticket to get in.

The Massed Choirs: Four male choirs Cor Meibion Talgarth Male Choir, Cor Meibion Aberhonddu, Builth Male Voice Choir and Rhayader & District Male Voice Choir would pay tribute to Richard Livsey, an MP of Brecon and Radnor who also served as the vice president of the festival and passed away in 2010. The event would be hosted by Glyn Powell. The event would be staged on 26th May at 7:30 pm in the Barclays Wealth Pavilion.

Life and Tales: This event would feature a discussion between Simon Weston and Steve Corry, and would be the first in a series where soldiers, journalists and politicians would discuss conflict resolution. Steve Corry, a veteran of the Falklands War and renowned for charity, would talk about his writing and life focusing on his desert island books, films and music. The event would take place on 26th May 2011 at 6 pm at the Oxfam Stage.

Greenprint Forum Screening: The End of The Line - This documentary would look at the devastating effects of over-fishing and try to carry on a sustainable marine environment. The event would take place on 26th May 2011 at 6 pm in Llwyfan Cymru - Wales Stage.


Greenprint Forum Screening: Mine - Story of a Sacred Mountain - This documentary would showcase the issues that arose between the London based mining company and the Dongria Kondh tribe. The screening would be followed by a Question and Answer session that would be headed by Andy Fryers, the director of Greenprint. The event would take place at the Llwyfan Cymru - Wales Stage on 26th May at 8:30 pm.

Greenprint Forum Screening: Fighting for a Sensible Fish Future - This event would feature Peter Duncan, who is from the Marine Conservation Society and also functions as the Director of Sustainability & External Affairs at Birds Eye; and the fisheries minister Richard Benyon. Geoffrey Lean would chair the meet. The event would take place at the Elmley Foundation Theater on 26th May 2011 at 11:30 am.

Greenprint Forum: Food for Thought - Louise Gray would head this discussion session on the viability of genetically modified food crops with regards to the fluctuating global environmental trends. The event would take place on 26th May 2011 at the Elmley Foundation Theater at 1 pm.

Greenprint Forum: Bread and Circuses - Geoffrey Lean would chair this meet on speculation on prices of staple food items like wheat, meat, cocoa, coffee and sugar. The meeting would take place at the Elmley Foundation Theatre on 26th May, 2011 at 2:30 pm.

Greenprint Forum: The Planet's Limits - This event would feature discussion on various ecological issues. The participants will be: Mark Lynas, an environmental author cum campaigner, and Jane Davidson, ex Minister of Environment of Wales and the Director of INSPIRE. Besides, Professor Russell Deacon would head a discussion on different aspects of the Welsh Liberal Party at the Elmley Foundation Theatre on 26th May 2011 at 6 pm.
