United Arab Emirates Camel Racing is an inherent part of United Arab Emirates heritage. It is a traditional sport of the country and is practiced widely among the UAE residents. It is one of the United Arab Emirates sports and attracts participants from all over the world.
Formerly the sport was practiced in an informal setting specially in weddings and festivals. However with times the game has been improved. It is now practiced in customized tracks and this much awaited special sport is held in winter from October to April.
Various camel racing events are held to promote this unique traditional sport. The Zayed Grand Prize is one of the noteworthy camel race events in United Arab Emirates, which is sponsored by the Sheikh Zayed. This camel race is also held at the Al Wathba racetrack to mark the national day of United Arab Emirates. However the rules and regulations of this traditional sport are formulated by the Camel Racing Federation. The organization is also in charge of guiding and controlling camel racing events throughout the seven emirates, which constitute to make the United Arab Emirates.
The United Arab Emirates Camel racing is gradually becoming a popular international event also. The Sheikh Zayed's President Cup, which was held in Sydney in 1999 for two consecutive years mark the popularity of the camel racing.
