The ruler or the deputy ruler of Dubai has always been assigned the post of Prime Minister of United Arab Emirates. All the Prime Ministers of UAE, except the first prime minister, since independence have also served as vice presidents of the country.
The Prime Minister of United Arab Emirates are elected from the Al Maktoum Family who are the rulers of Dubai. Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum was the first prime minister of the country; he ruled from December 9, 1971 to April 25, 1979.
Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum took over as the second prime minister of the UAE ruling from April 25, 1979 to October 7, 1990.
Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum was sworn in as the prime minister for the second term in 1990 and held the post till January 4, 2006.
Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum is the present Prime Minister of UAE. He assumed office on January 11, 2006. The third Sheikh of Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum's four sons, he is famous and well known for his charitable contributions. As a well educated and a learned man, he opines that money is meant for improving the standards of education. 'Dubai Cares' is a campaign launched by him where raised money for the education of children in poor countries.
The economy of Dubai has progressed immensely in his tenure. He initiated the launch of many lucrative projects in Dubai, including the creation of Palm Islands and the Burj al Arab Hotel.
