Two very important United Arab Emirates religious festivals are Id al Adha and Id al Fitr. The two other very popular religious festivals of UAE are Ramadan and Al-Hijra.
Id al Adha is the festival of sacrifice, which is observed on the 10th day of Dhu al Hijjah known as the pilgrimage or the 12th month of the year. The festival lasts for four days and is vastly observed in UAE especially in Dubai. In memory of the sacrifice of ram by Abraham, the meats of slaughtered rams are distributed among the poor.
Ramadan in United Arab Emirates is one of the primary religious festivals. This is the festival of offering oneself to god by fasting for a month. The festival begins when the crescent moon is shone in the sky. Not only the people of UAE but also the followers of Islam throughout the world keep fasting during the day time. They are only allowed to take their meals during the night or after the sunset. The restaurants, cafeterias and coffee shops are crowded by visitors to have their meal during the evening.
Id al Fitr is observed as the end of Ramadan by breaking the month long fasting. This festival is marked with colorful festivities. Gifts are exchanged and people are seen in their best clothes on the streets greeting each other. The streets of all the major cities of UAE are decorated with lights and colorful ribbons.
