The Sesse Islands are a group of island in Uganda situated in Lake Victoria. These islands are relatively unspoilt, and are situated some distance off from the town of Entebbe. The Sesse Islands are an archipelago, consisting of about 84 islands. These have unspoilt nature, dense rain forests and varied wildlife, and picturesque beaches. It has been termed one of the most beautiful locations of Uganda, and tourist inflow has significantly increased over the years. In spite of the increase, the Sesse Islands continue to retain their unspoilt beauty.
Sesse Islands can be approached by land and ferry. Services are efficient and regular. The main landing points are the Buggala and the Banda islands, the largest islands in the archipelago. Once on Sesse Islands, travel between islands is easy, with ferry services being frequent and easily available. One can also hire one's own boat.
Things to do in Sesse Islands Uganda include hikes and trips into the amazing dense rain forests. There are a number of hiking trails, and experienced hiking guides are available in local villages who can accompany visitors on the hike. During these hikes, one can witness varied forms of plant and animal life, as many exotic species reside in the unspoilt rain forests of Sesse Islands. Notable among these is the Sitatunga, a semi aquatic, swamp dwelling antelope, which are found exclusively in this region.
Other activities include kayak rides in Lake Victoria, fishing and swimming. Sesse Islands have various accommodation and food options, most of them very basic. Backpackers hostels and camping sites are common, and so are small restaurants, which serve simple food.
