Mount Muhavura located to the south west of the Mgahinga National Park is a perfect destination for hiking in Uganda. A cone shaped volcano, Mount Muhavura provides the travelers and hikers with the best views. With a hiking trail and incredible surroundings Mount Muhavura forms an ideal mountaineering spot in Uganda as well as in the world.
The weather being clear in the region Virunga volcanoes, Lake Edward in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi and the peaks of Ruwenzori mountains can be seen from Mount Muhavura. Mount Muhavura in Uganda lacks the forest covered slopes that Mgahinga and Sabinyo have.
The surface of the slopes of Mount Muhavura Uganda is rocky and carpeted by grasses and small shrubs. from the top of Mount Muhavura one gets a panoramic view of Congo and Rwanda and a crater lake (36km wide). The scarlet colored Tufted Malachite Sunbirds are a unique bird specie that inhabits the region.
A hike to the peak of Mount Muhavura takes the travelers though bamboo forests and bushbucks and golden monkeys are there to greet them. The mountainside is full of steps and switchbacks. The top contains a swamp inside a crater.
Hiking to the second and third peaks is a trek and scramble through the steep mountain slopes of Mount Muhavura Uganda. The climb to peak 2 is a walk through the ridge that is characterized with deep gorges. The top of peak 3 is the summit of the three countries, Rwanda, Congo, Uganda.
