Mgahinga Gorilla National Park



Lying in the southwestern region of Uganda, the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park sprawls over the northern slopes of the three northernmost Virunga Volcanoes, Mt. Muhavura, Mt. Gahinga and Mt. Sabinyo. The Mgahinga Gorilla National Park covers an area of 33.7 square kilometers. The landscape from the national park constitutes the high cones of the extinct Virunga Volcanoes. The viewpoint which is 15 minutes from Ntebeko Gate gives an overall view of the whole area.

The Mgahinga National Park in Uganda is not only significant in terms of travel and tourism in Uganda but also in terms of geography and nature and wildlife. The Mgahinga National Park forms the largest nature and wildlife reserve of Uganda. The cool climate and a luxurious vegetation at the Mgahinga National Park Uganda create a suitable habitat for the mountain gorillas, different types of flora and a huge variety of birds including Crowned Hornbill, Black Kite, Fire Finch, Grey-capped Warbler, Yellow-Vented Bulbul etc.

There are many Uganda tours that take the tourists to safaris through the Mgahinga National Park of Uganda. Safaris in this national park are exciting, fun, adventure packed and introduce the visitors to the diverse wildlife of the region. While safariing in the Mgahinga National park it is common to come across a number of animals and birds.

While in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Uganda there are a number of things to do that keep the travelers occupied all the time. These activities include Gorilla Tracking(through thick Uganda jungles), bird watching, volcano climbing(hiking), trekking through the jungles and cave exploration.

Accommodation in and near the national park consists of camping grounds and hotels and guest houses in the nearby village of Kisoro. A number of rules and regulations have to be followed during Gorilla Tracking for safety measure. The Mgahinga National park is a unique experience.
