Lake Mutanda in Uganda is the home of a diversified flora and fauna of the region. A haven for a variety of wildlife, Lake Mutanda comprises some rare and unique species of wildlife like the Grey-chested crane, Pink-backed Pelican, Glossy Ibis, Pied kingfisher, Long-chested eagle, African pied wagtail and the African Otter.
Lake Mutanda in Uganda was once full of different types of fishes, crocodiles and hippos. Human activities and encroachment in this region have led to the depletion of these species in the lake. Lake Mutanda of Uganda contains a lot of crayfish, Tilapia and mudfish.Pythons also inhabit the lake area. The water temperature is mostly above 20 degrees.
The Mutanda Eco Community Center (MECC) has been founded to conserve the wildlife of the Lake Mutanda Uganda, to develop eco tourism in the Lake region and for purposes of education and study. The main aim of the MECC is to preserve the flora and fauna of the Lake Mutanda. School children are also working in this region to help in the preservation of the wildlife in the Lake.
Apart from being a reserve of a diversified range of flora and fauna, the Lake Mutanda situated in the midst of an incredible locale provides stunning scenic beauty to the visitors to the place. It is close to the Mgahinga National Park and a trip to the national park will be incomplete without a visit to the Lake Mutanda, Uganda. With such large variety of wildlife and natural beauty lake Mutanda forms a significant and attractive sightseeing spot in Uganda.
