Uganda radio came into being in 1993 when the first commercial radio stations were launched. At that time Uganda radio stations lacked variety. Over the years Uganda radio has undergone rapid development. Presently the radio stations of Uganda have achieved success and popularity among the people of Uganda. Radio of Uganda is controlled by Radio Uganda which is a part of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in Uganda.
Today Uganda radio has been able to reach even the remote places in Uganda where the people before had no concept about the radio. A number of private commercial radio stations have expanded their area of broadcast thus encompassing a larger audience. Radio in Uganda provides information and news related to politics, economy, social and general. Apart from information and news entertainment is a large and important aspect of Uganda radio.
Coming out from the limits of its reach Uganda network has been able to contact all the classes of the society. Now it is not only the elite who can own and listen to radios, but people from every section of the society and from the remote villages to can access the radio. It has become a common thing in every household in Uganda.
Radio of Uganda airs everything from news to music to chat shows. The government too uses the radio stations to broadcast information. Call-in talk shows and public debates are aired by the FM stations. The most wanted feature of the Uganda radio is music.
