Uganda Civil War

Since 1980s Uganda Civil War has been a problematic issue in Northern Uganda. The rebellion against the government took away the life of hundreds of people and 400-thousand people were left homeless. In Kampala political violence increased with the 19998-99 bombing. Rebels remained unresolved in Northern and Western Uganda.

Lord's Resistance Army and Allied Democratic Forces were the two min rebel groups against whom President Yoweri Museveni used military groups. Numerous children suffered in this war as they were abducted to be used as porters or fighters. The Uganda Civil War became intense in 1996. As a result people were forced to move to the protective camp by the military groups. This war affected the economy severely. International and domestic pressure made the President seek political solution leaving the military force.

The 16 years of Civil War of Uganda seemed to come to an end in 2003 as LRA wanted to talk to the government. Under tremendous public pressure the government was also bound to choose the path of negotiation. The Gulu, Kitgum, Pader and Acholi grouped suffered a lot. Moving to the camps made them unable to grow crops. So hunger became another source of suffering. The attack of LRA in 2002 was tremendously brutal, which did not even spare the children. This was another reason for the President to be ready for a talk though according to the army spokesperson Major Shaban this was a waste of time as the rebellions had no such agenda to discuss.

In 2003 Sudan agreed to let Uganda government enter their territory and attack the LRA rebels. Many of the rebels were killed while many of then were captured in 2004. Many abducted were rescued and charges were produced against Kony, the leader of the rebels and also against his helping hands. Civil War in Uganda witnessed another attack by the rebels in 2004. In 2006 the rebels had a number of talks with the government. They became ready to sign a peace deal after the charges were dropped.
