Uganda has established a permanent mission to the United Nations or the UN. This is conducive to good and congenial relations of Uganda with other nations which are also members of the UN. This permanent mission is housed in
Uganda House, which is situated in the city center of New York, right across the street from the
UN headquarters. Working closely with the UN and the
Uganda Embassy in Washington, the Uganda House is instrumental to Uganda's relations to the rest of the world.
The present government regime in Uganda is on the lookout for chances to promote good congenial international relations, after the detrimental effects of the foreign policies of Obote and Idi Amin, who did nothing to enhance Uganda's reputation as a friendly country. The permanent mission goes a long way to repair the damage caused by these regimes, and looks to salvage the relations of Uganda with other nations.
Uganda is also one of the limited nations who have the opportunity of maintaining a permanent mission at such close proximity to the UN headquarters. The
Uganda House provides consular services including the providing of travel information to those interested and the issuing of travel Visas. Earlier, it also used to issue and renew passports, but that function currently stands suspended, and is done only at the Embassy.
The
Uganda permanent mission to the UN at
Uganda House is currently headed by Ambassador Francis K. Butagira, and is backed by a staff of highly qualified visionaries.
