The
flag of Uganda was officially hoisted in the year 1962 when the country got its independence. Uganda was for a significant amount of time under the control of United Kingdom and on the occasion of its liberation the current flag was officially adopted. The designer of the flag was Mr. Grace Ibingira who was the Minister of Justice of Uganda. The official proportion of the
Ugandan flag is 2:3 which makes it rectangular in shape.
There are mainly three colors in the
flag of Uganda. There are six bands which are horizontally placed, of colors yellow, red and black. All the stripes in the flag are of same size. One of the yellow bands is on the top of the flag, one of the reds at the bottom and the single black stripe at the centre. At the heart of the flag is the Grey-crowned Crane bird within the white circle. This was kept on the official flag as it was used by the soldiers of Uganda on their uniform during the British rule. The black band in the
Uganda Flag represents the black populace of the country. The red color denotes fraternity and yellow color symbolizes the bright sunshine. These colors were also the colors present in Uganda People's Congress party.
