Uganda women are born and brought up in a very traditional atmosphere and they were taught to listen and follow the wishes of their fathers, husbands, brothers and even to the other men of the society. The male counterparts were more dominating in respect to the women. In 1980s the women in the rural areas like Buganda used to kneel down while speaking to the men .The women of Uganda however shouldered all the primary responsibilities like that of childcare and cultivation sector and were none less than men in any respect. By the twentieth century women also made their mark in the cash crop agriculture.
Uganda women have played major part in several political uprisings and revolutions. Women in Uganda have the power to own their land and can even cultivate crop for their own substantial profit. In Uganda male dominance is still noticed because the polygamous marriage system existed and a man can marry more than one woman. In certain cases it is noticed that the senior wife is given the head or male status in the family.
Uganda women faced a lot of problem during the 1970s and early in 1980s due to the violence that shattered the whole nation. The economic hardship first arose in home where the women and children were deprived of the economic choices whereas men had the liberty of decision making.
Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is a women's organization started in May 2000 and its sole purpose is to support the women and address all the national and local problems faced by women by the use of communication technologies. Other than this the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers was founded in 1976 and it emphasizes on the parameters like defending the women against property loss or divorce cases.
Various methods are upgraded and they are still continuing to expand their arena to help out the Uganda women in times of this crisis as women are the very part of the Uganda people and the society.
