The Lugbara of Uganda



The Lugbara of Uganda is a kind of Uganda religion and the followers solely believe that the life and death of the same lineage are in relationship to each other permanently. According to the Lugbara of Uganda the dead are conscious of the actions of the living and they care about their children. The Lugbara of Uganda in some cases believe that the dead send signals to the living ,often by making them sick and also makes the living aware that the dead care for them. God is even associated amidst the living and dead and the Lugbara of Uganda believes that God is the creator of world and he is present in remote places like sky and streams.

The Lugbara of Uganda believes that God created the ancestors and their descendent's and all of them are formed from the first creature of earth called as "Spirit". The Spirit who created man is known as "gborogboro" and that which created women is known as "meme". Meme had wild animals in her womb and she gave birth to "gazelle" and thus animals followed. Meme even gave birth to a boy and girl and they reproduced among themselves and form the several generations and thus finally gave birth to the Lugbara mythological heroes namely Jaki and Dribidu.

The Lugbara of Uganda are generally located in the Nile or Congo in the Northeastern Uganda and they had been subjected to colonial administration since 1990.Though some Arab expeditions had entered the country but the Lugbara of Uganda had never suffered or affected by the slave trade in Africa. The relationship between the Lugbara and the colonial authorities had created awesome personalities that never existed in Lugbara previously.

The symbols of Lugbara constituted of prominent structure of an ancestor ghosts called as "orijo". Stones even form part of the shrines built by the ancestors and they were the symbolic representation of wealth and prestige and they also formed the very part of the Uganda religion
