During the year 1970 Uganda Management Institute received an affiliation with Makerere University. During the year 1968 this institute started training functions. In the mid 1980 the postgraduate diploma in Human Resource and Management was enclosed to this institute.
An outreach training centre has been opened by Uganda Management Institute at Mbarara.
