Turkish Offshore Racing Club was established in 1971. It organizes offshore racing of highest international standard throughout Turkey. The Turkish Navy Cup is one of the most prestigious events in Turkey. The
Turkish Offshore Racing Club expects to increase the fleet (67 in 2005 and 80 in 2006) with time.
Turkish Offshore Racing Club arrange for fleet sailing that starts close to the Bosphorus and passes through some of the famous landmarks of Istanbul such as the Blue Mosque, the Church of St Sophia and Topkapi Palace on the way to the Marmara sea.
After going through the sea the fleets sail along the Dardanelles. They pass the towns of Gilibolu and Canakkale. These historic towns defended the Dardanelles and Istanbul through the centuries.
The island of Bozcaada (one of the most important Turkish island) is the place where the first race finishes. The original name of Bozcaada was Tenedos. The second race starts from Bozcaada and finishes at the city of Cesme.
The
Turkish Offshore Racing Club shows that the navy is tremendously active. Turkish Navy supports the regatta by providing two navy ships to follow the race progress. The clubs also get help from the Turkish Coastguard who support in laying start and finish lines.
The race from Cesme to Turgutreis marks the East Aegean Sailing Week. The yachts are tied up to the D-Marin here. It is the newest yacht marina in Turkey. To complete the race program three short races are scheduled by
Turkish Offshore Racing Club. The final prize is given at the D-Marin yacht Club.
