1 May, 1964 can be considered to be a turning point for
Turkey Media. The Turkish Radio and Television broadcasting were established on this day bringing a public and institutional identity for the radio with a long history and also for the television which had started test broadcasting.
Turkey Media started to develop because of the transfer by the state of broadcasting to an authorized and responsible unit. The conditions for private radio and television were created in 1990s. Many radio stations and television channels started broadcasting beside TRT. A great advancement can be noticed in this field from 1990-1998.
Turkey Media acquired a diversity and richness in this field.
TRT (The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation) has constitutional autonomy. 7 television channels come under TRT. It has also got many radio channels. Other than TRT there are 16 private television channels broadcasting news, films, musical shows etc. Out of total 1,180 radio stations 36 stations are broadcasting national, 108 at regional and 1,036 at local scales.
Printing press holds an important position in
Turkey Media. 21 newspapers that are published at national level have reached 4million. Local newspapers also serve well to meet the need for news of the public.
