Turkish bath is a very popular attraction in Turkey. This is actually a kind of spa or sauna in Turkey. The name by which Turkish bath is generally known is 'Hamman'. This term has several meanings. The root of this term in Arabic language means heat. But generally Hamman means bathroom or toilet. Turkish bath or Hamman are very popular in this country and fetch a number of visitors also. Turkish bath is an important part of Turkish culture for long since it has been a place of many important social gathering and activities.

Turkish bath is a feature of Turkish life in general from the middle ages. This popular place of steam bath has been a place for relaxation, social gatherings, cleansing that have been a part of several ritualistic activities and many other things for centuries. Moreover the buildings that house this Turkish bath have developed certain architectural patterns that have also been a part of Turkish life in general. The Turkish bath is process that in sense is closer to the sauna bath but in tradition and other aspects is very close to the culture of Roman bath.

The Turkish bath is associated with some processes. At first the persons willing to have a Turkish bath enters a room where there is constant flow of hot and dry air to make the bather perspire. After spending some time into that room the bathers are moved to a separate room which is even hotter. After this, the bathers wash their full body and then indulge into the luxury of massage and finally retire into the cold water for ultimate relaxation.
