The infrastructure of Tunisia Health is based on a well-developed public health service and private hospital covering all parts of the country. The entire system is maintained and operated by The Ministry of Public Health in Tunisia. A harmonious physical and mental development of all Tunisian natives is the primary concern of this ministry. Tunisia Health is basically divided into two separate sectors, the public health unit and the private health unit.
Free Healthcare in Tunisia
The rate of free medical treatment is determined by the Ministry of Public Health in respect of the total population of the country. Only the needy families are benefited by this free medical treatment, which is nearly 7% of the families living below the poverty line including the handicapped persons and the abandoned children living on the streets. Other citizens who have very limited annual income and those who are not affiliated with any other social security system are also eligible for the free medical service.

The infrastructure of Tunisia Health can be categorized as General Hospitals, Regional Hospitals, District Hospitals, Specialized Institutes, Centres and Hospitals, Basic Health Centres, Basic Health Complexes and Regional School and University Health Centres. There are several of these health units located in different cities across the country.
There are 3 Military Hospitals in Tunisia, which do not fall under the Ministry of Public Health.
