Major Earthquake off the Kuril Islands: Tsunami Warning in Effect for Japan and Russia, 13 January 2007
The National Earthquake Information Center of the United States Geological Survey, has reported that a major earthquake of a magnitude of 8.2 has occurred about 525 km (325 miles) east of Kuril'sk, Kuril Islands or about 1710 km (1060 miles) north east of Tokyo, Japan at 04: 23 AM UTC on 13 January 2007. It has also declared that earthquakes of this type has the potential to generate destructive tsunamis and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami warning for Japan, Russia, Marcus Island, Wake Island, Midway Island and the Northern Marianas.
