Music in Trinidad and Tobago
There are different types of musical forms that are identified as Trinidad and Tobago Music. Some of these musical forms originated in Trinidad and Tobago itself, while the others are a result of foreign influence. Some of the important Trinidad and Tobago Music are explained below:-
- Soca – This is one of the important and most popular forms of music that is basically used for dancing. Soca is a musical form that is created by a fine fusion of calypso and the basic Indian beats.
- Soca-Parang – This is yet another form of popular Trinidad and Tobago Music, which is basically influenced by the different types of musical forms such as Calypso and Soca.
- Calypso – This is also known as “Kaiso” and it is said that this particular form of Trinidad and Tobago Music was actually invented in Trinidad itself in the 19th century. The calypso singers were initially known as “Giot” and later become popular as “chantaulle”.
- Chutney – This is a prevalent musical form in Trinidad and Tobago and is very rhythmic as it combines the vivacious and pulsating beats of the Soca and Indian percussion.
Besides the above mentioned musical forms, there are others, which also forms an important part of the Trinidad and Tobago Music such as Rapso, Regga Soca, Pichakaree and Parang.
