Description
The Tower of London is a historic monument in Central London, on the north bank of the River Thames. It is located within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and is separated from the eastern edge of the City of London by Tower Hill.
In deference to an ancient legend, a number of ravens are fed at the Tower on government expense. Legend has it, that Charles II was told that if the ravens left the Tower, the monarchy would fall. Since then, it has been used as a prison, palace, place of execution, and a showcase for the Crown Jewels.
Today, the Tower of London tour offers attractions such as, the British Crown Jewels, as well as the buildings themselves, which showcase, a fine armor collection, and remnants of the wall of the Roman fortress, that Roman emperor Claudius built there to protect the city of Londinium.
