Timbuktu




Timbuktu is a wonderful city in the northern part of Mali, west Africa. This African city has a great historical significance. In the year 1988 it was given the honor of a world heritage site.
Located on the southern tip of the Sahara desert it is around 8 miles from the River Niger.

It is assumed that during the 12th century Tuareg nomads founded this city, which later became an important place for the salt and trans-Sahara gold trade. Apart from this, Timbuktu City also became a cultural center as well as a center of learning.

Presently Timbuktu, Africa is said to be a major tourist destinations. So, if you are taking a trip across Africa don't miss out to visit this picturesque city of Timbuktu.

While roaming around this city, a traveler can come across several mosques (places of worship). Most of them are made of mud. Though there are lot of places to visit in Timbuktu, one is always suggested to go to the Sidi Yahya, Sankore and Djinguereber Mosque as they all have a lot of historical importance.

The other remarkable attractions of Timbuktu include well-maintained gardens, a water tower, a museum and so on.
