Description The famous erotic temples of Khajuraho form one of the most popular tourist attractions in India. Built between AD950 and 1050 by the kings of the Chandela, the site originally possessed 85 temples, of which 20 are still reasonably preserved.

Lost for centuries after the decline of the Chandela, the small village of Khajuraho was rediscovered in 1838 by a British army captain.

The temples are best known for the erotic friezes on their walls.

Celebrating life and love, these friezes in fact only make up a fraction of the total ornamental carvings, which depict gods, goddesses and celestial maidens.
