Lost for centuries after the decline of the Chandela, the small village of Khajuraho was rediscovered in 1838 by a British army captain.
The temples are best known for the erotic friezes on their walls.
Celebrating life and love, these friezes in fact only make up a fraction of the total ornamental carvings, which depict gods, goddesses and celestial maidens.
