It is said that this temple was built in the year 1782. There is a number of images of Buddha inside the temple. While roaming inside the temple, one can come across different types of wall paintings depicting the stories of Jataka. One of the most remarkable paintings of this temple depicts the victory of the the Buddha over Mara, the evil demon. However, photography is strictly prohibited inside the Wat Phra Kaeo.
This is indeed one of the most alluring sites of Thailand and has a great national importance. This is assumed to be the only Thailand temple that does not have any resident monks. In the true sense, it serves as royal chapel.
