Columbia Business School

Columbia Business School, one of the six Ivy League business schools is a part of Columbia University. The school, officially named the Columbia University Graduate School of Business was established in the year 1916 with an aim to provide business training and professional preparation for undergraduate and graduate students. The school founded by Alonzo Barton Hepburn, the then president of Chase Manhattan Bank, began with 61 students.

Columbia Business School began its Master of Business Administration (MBA) program in 1945, years after the school expanded with the enrolment of 420 students. It also added a PhD program to the already existing BS and MS degree programs. Columbia Business School currently offers a full-time MBA program, an executive MBA program and a PhD program in addition to the various executive education programs.



Being one of the leading business schools with international representation, the faculty team of Columbia Business School includes 12 Nobel Prize winners in Economics including professor Joseph Stiglitz. As a mark of respect to the entrepreneurial nature of the Greek god Hermes and his association with business, commerce and communication, the school adopted Hermes emblem as its symbol. R. Glenn Hubbard, the former chair of President Bush's Council of Economic Advisers was installed as the eleventh dean of Columbia Business School on July 1, 2004. At present, the school enrolls about 1,196 students which is considered as the third highest among U.S. business schools.
