East Timor, Asia



Positioned at the south east portion of Asia, East Timor covers an area of 15,007 sq km. The country covers the eastern region of the island of Timor. East Timor also includes the North West portion of Timor. The two islands Pulau Antauro and the Pulau Jaco come under the territory of the Timor- Leste. The Asia, East Timor is considerably bigger than Connecticut. The lowest point of the country is Timor Sea, Savu Sea and the highest point is Foho Tatamailau 2,963 m. The Timor Leste has a wide variety of natural resources like gold, petroleum, natural gas, and manganese, marble. The East Timor has a population of over 1,084,971.

The genocide in the year 1999, led to the downfall of the economic structure of the East Timor, Asia. The Indonesian military ravaged the country leading to a mass killing. Over the years, the various international programs conducted by different countries led to the re-development of the devastated East Timor, Asia. At the end of the 2005, all the Timorese people resettled in Indonesia. Since there is a limited source of production facilities in Timor- Leste, the youths are not provided with adequate jobs.

In the recent years, the country has witnessed development in the fields of natural gas and oil which have boosted up the revenue generation of Timor- Leste. There are several ethnic groups in the East Timor, Asia like Austronesian (Malayo-Polynesian), Papuan, Chinese minority. The country people speak a number of languages like Tetum (official), Portuguese (official), Indonesian, English, Tetum, Galole, Mambae, and Kemak.
