UNDP has a country office in East Timor and recently on 9th July 2007, UNDP and the Australian Agency for International Development have secured a partnership and signed an agreement an agreement to work for the development of East Timor. The UNDP or the United Nations Development Program is an organization of United Nation which promotes global development. UNDP has country offices in 166 countries. United Nations Development Program is an executive board within the United Nations General Assembly. UNDP is the largest multi dimensional source of development which provides development assistance in the world. The UNDP headquarter is located in the New York City. The United Nations Development Program in East Timor is controlled and managed by the voluntary donations from the member of nations.
Here the organization works with the local governments to develop the local capacity to meet local challenges of development. The country office Director of UNDP East Timor is Mr. Akbar Usmani. Mr. Akbar Usmani with Ms. Robin Scott-Charlton who is the Counsellor of Development Cooperation participated in the signing ceremony organized in Dili, the capital city of East Timor. Australian Agency for International Development and UNDP have agreed to provide result based development to East Timor. Australian Agency for International Development and UNDP have also agreed on the improvement of aid potency in East Timor by working together in the government sectors like: parliament, elections, law and justice. The cooperation of both parties, UNDP with AusAID demonstrates their commitment to work on those areas which largely affect the interest of the common people in East Timor. According to Ms. Robin Scott-Charlton of Australian Agency for International Development, this partnership with UNDP in East Timor is important for more sustained developmental help and guidance to the country of East Timor.
