Timor Leste politics has been well defined in the Constitution of the country which was ratified an drafted on the occasion of the country's new found status as a republic. It has been mentioned in the written
Constitution that East Timor politics would be governed by its
unicameral parliament which consists of the head of state, the head of government and the legislature. Although, it has been stated that the President is the head of state yet, it should be noted that, the reins of
Timor Leste politics are held by its head of government, the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is aided in his function of governing
Timor Leste politics by the Cabinet of Ministers.
The Prime Minister is elected by the President from among he party holding majority seats in the parliament.
Timor Leste politics, however, has modeled itself on the political lines of its one-time ruler, Portugal.
Timor Leste politics runs along the lines of working that is stated in the Constitution of the country which states that; the parliament should be able to pass legislations according to the need of the country, establish a multi-party democracy within the political set-up of East Timor, to look over the peaceful working of the government and the President and finally it is the duty of the parliament to establish peaceful relations between the administrative, judiciary and legislative organs of the parliament. The East Timor politics comprises of the Head of State, the Head of government, the National Assembly, the Government Ministries, the Ministries of various departments, the Governmental departments, the judiciary and the various embassies of East Timor.
