East Timor became an independent republic in May 2002. The U.N. Security Council prescribed an organization known as U.N. Transitional Administration in East Timor or UNTAET for the promotion and protection of East Timor human rights. This organization established a democratic form of government in the country. East Timor has a parliamentary form of government.
East Timor made significant progress in establishing democracy. As promoting and protecting human rights have become very important, nowadays every country in this world have started respecting each and every aspect of human rights. UNTAET also respected the human rights of the people of East Timor.
Section 1 of the East Timor constitution includes respect for the unity of the person. Sections 1 of the East Timor constitution also includes freedom from matters like- political and other illegal kills, suffering and other unkind, cruel, or humiliating action or sentence, illogical apprehension, custody, or banish, uninformed interference with confidentiality, family, home or communication and many more to protect the human rights of the people of East Timor.
To protect the human rights, Section 2 of the East Timor constitution includes its respect for civil liberties, which includes issues like - freedom of speech and press, peaceful assembly and association, religious practices, movement within the country, emigration, foreign travel and repatriation.
Section 3 of the East Timor constitution includes its respect for political rights of the people, which includes the right of citizens to change their government.
Section 4 of the East Timor constitution demonstrates governmental attitude regarding international and nongovernmental investigation of suspected violations of human rights.
Section 5 of the East Timor constitution demonstrates its respect against discrimination based on religion, race, sex, language, disability, or social status.
