Location of East Timor

East Timor, an island only as big as Connecticut, is located in the eastern part of Timor Island which lies between the South China Sea and the Indian Ocean. The country includes the nearby Atauro and Jaco Islands and Oceussi Ambeno within the Indonesian West Timor. The location of East Timor is pretty interesting. It actually forms an arc between Asia and Australia. When we see the location of EastTimor, we find that it is only 640 kilometers northeast of Australia. This south East Asian country's official name is Democratic Republic of Timor Leste.

East Timor is located in 08°35' S, 125°35' E. The difference between Greenwich Mean Time and Timor National Time is of 9.00 hours. However, the coast line of East Timor is 439 miles long. The land area occupies 5,794 square miles. Its neighboring countries are Indonesia, Bali and Australia. The place is surrounded by a flat plain. This rises suddenly into the mountains at the center of the country. There are some beautiful rivers located inside East Timor that form deep ravines. Some of the significant rivers here are Lakla, Lies and Seical. There are also a few small meandering rivers in the country.

East Timor occupies almost 50% of the island of Timor. The highest point of the country is called Foho Tatamailau. It is 2,963 meters above the sea level. The lowest point, on the other hand, is the sea that surrounds the country. There are seas like Timor Sea, Savu Sea and Banda Sea around the country. The country is divided into 13 administrative districts.
