An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter Scale jolted the Virgin Islands on October 11, 2008 at 06:40:16. This is the strongest quake to be felt in the region in the last twenty years and and struck on the 90th Anniversary of the deadliest earthquake in Puerto Rico which killed more than 100 people. Originating at a depth of 25 km its center was located at a distance of 82 km NW of Settlement, Anegada, British Virgin Islands; 95 km NNW of East End Long Look, Tortola, British Virgin Islands; 95 km NNW of ROAD TOWN, British Virgin Islands and 155 km NE of Carolina, PR. No damage to life and property has been reported so far.
