An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 on Richter Scale struck Vancouver Island in Canada on 28th Aug 2008 at 12:37 hrs UTC. It was on June 23, 1946 that the region's largest earthquake struck Vancouver Island. With a magnitude of 7.3 and the epicentre in the Forbidden Plateau area of central Vancouver Island, the historic earthquake had caused condisiderable damage to man-made structures and human lives in the Island. The epicentre of present earthquake has been located at 50.174N 129.582W, with a depth of 10 km. No damages to human lives and property have been reported
