An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 on Richter Scale struck Solomon Islands on 9th Sept 2008. After the tsunami generating earthquake that struck the region on April 2, 2007, the region has witnessed a few other moderate quakes on 16th Aug 2007 and 29th July 2008. No damages or casualties have been reported in the present quake. Epicentered at 9.261S 158.255 E, the present tremor has a depth of 10 km.
