Earthquake in Santa Cruz, a group of volcanic islands, in southwestern Pacific Ocean recorded a magnitude of 6.3. This is an earthquake prone region – a powerful quake of magnitude 7.3 had hit the region on February 6, 1999. Tremors were felt in regions Kira Kira, Auki, Honiara and at Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. As the epicenter was well inside the water body, there was no damage to buildings on land. No incident of casualty has been reported.
