October 1, 2009 12.00 pm GMT The total number of deaths has increased to 467 in Jakarta, Indonesia, after it was hit by a massive earthquake of magnitude 7.6 on September 30, 2009. The figures of the death tally have been confirmed by the government officials of Indonesia. After experiencing an earthquake of magnitude 7.6, the country again faced a powerful, shallow inland earthquake of magnitude 6.8, today morning. This second earthquake was recorded about 150 miles south of Padang at a depth of less than 20 miles. The tsunami alert which was raised after yesterday's earthquake is now officially revoked. |

| September 30, 2009 12.00 pm GMT The populated island of java, Indonesia was struck by a magnitude 7.6 earthquake, around 10 AM GMT on September 30, 2009. The earthquake registered some 33 miles from Padang, the capital city of West Sumatra. A tsunami watch has been issued by the pacific Tsunami Warning Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for Indonesia, India, Thailand and Malaysia. This earthquake has claimed close to 60 lives, dozens of missing persons and more than 10,000 damaged buildings. |

An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 in Richter Scale struck Southern Sumatra in Indonesia. The epicenter was located at 3.921S and 101.084E, with a depth of 35 km under the sea. Sumatra Island and the nearby regions are earthquake prone. A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8.7 on Richter Scale had hit this region in 2005, bringing serious damage to life (1,300 people died) and property. |
