As the Sex experts comment, Aids in Thailand has a different story in the program to fight the AIDS epidemic. It was1980s when situation was really grave. As the doctors reported, people working in Sex trade in Bangkok's popular red-light areas were found to be HIV positive. Prostitution in Thailand had enhanced the rapids spread of AIDS since then. Visits to prostitutes were decreased by half, usage of condom were raised and notable reduction in New HIV infection took place among Thai people after the AIDS controlling program started.
In 1991, number of HIV infections was 143,000 out of 65 million Thai people. Aids in Thailand was so controlled that the figure came down to 19,000 in 2003. It seemed Thai society became very conscious about this mass epidemic. However, complacency, signs of less awareness of public about Aids in Thailand and fund reduction from Government to control AIDS have become fatal for safety pf Thai people and international tourists, too. As per a survey report, at least 450,000 Thai people visit female prostitutes daily. Almost 95% of Thai men visit local brothels found in every city of Thailand. Visiting prostitutes is a common nature for Thai men.
Practice of unsafe sex in Thailand is also on rise. Condoms found in red-light area are not up to the mark. Condom use has been reduced in red-light areas of Bangkok. Prostitution in Thailand has generated HIV/AIDS in Thailand massively. Sex workers are more affected. Thailand hosted the XV International AIDS Conference in 2004. In addition to the common people, Thailand Government must increase preventive measures among gay people and injecting drug users also to take control of Aids in Thailand.
