Thailand Elephant

Thailand elephant acts as a symbol for the country. There has always been a close connection between the Thai people and elephants. Since

Thailand had monarchy as the administrative system, there were elephants in abundant use. And even today, they are revered by common Thais as a religious and authoritative symbol. White elephants are very popular in Thailand and are considered to be among the largest tourist attractions. With changing times, reverence for the elephants has remained the same, but there was a massive downfall in the number of animals due to mass killing and poaching.

White elephant of Thailand was also featured on the flag of the Royal Thai Navy. The royal beast is regarded to be efficient as well as faithful to Thai people. Usually Thailand elephant has a pleasant nature and are not harmful, until and unless they are disturbed. Previously, elephants in Thailand were caught and trained for various purposes. These elephants were also used by the Forest Department of Thailand for commercial and industrial purposes.

Suddenly, the number of elephants started declining with massive elephant killing and poaching. Several national parks and sanctuaries are built to preserve the dying species, as elephants form a glorious part of Thailand. Training is also provided to the elephants to carry out important jobs and works. Thai Elephant Conservation Center outside Lampang trains elephants regularly and even tourists can enjoy the sight.
