The Thailand tsunami is an important event accounting for the most devastating natural calamity in the recent past. The tsunami that occurred on 26th December 2004 originated from the Indian Ocean. The tsunami mainly occurs due to uneven tectonic movement of the earth's plates below the sea level. This uneven movement causes the tides of the ocean to rise abnormally high. According to the Thai government approximately 8000 people lost their lives in this deadly disaster.
Tsunami caused huge destruction in Thailand. Phuket, a famous tourist spot in Thailand was the most badly affected area. Another small but quite popular tourist spot Khao Lak also got affected badly registering 3950 casualties. The resort area of Khao Lak is quite low and slightly above the sea level. Due to this reason the aftermath of the tsunami were more harshly felt.
The Thailand tsunami or the tsunami in Thailand is literally an important event, which the oceanographers must take into account. This needs to be done to prevent huge loss of lives unnoticed. Many holiday resorts on the Phi Phi Island were washed by the gigantic tidal waves. The tsunami truly had a deep impact on the economy of Thailand. The fishing and the tourism sector were the most affected part. The tsunami literally made the government go through a tough time to recover. Huge capital investments need to be done to renovate these sectors to attract the tourists.
