The southern Thailand region stretches from from Chumphon to the Thai-Malaysian border. Thailand south have the Gulf of Thailand at its eastern border. The Indian Ocean forms the western border of Southern Thailand.

Southern Thailand has a tropical climate. Fine weather conditions exist on the western side of the Thai peninsula from November to March and on the eastern side of the region from May to September. The southwest monsoon season brings torrential rains to the area for 6 months starting from the month of May and continues until the month of October. The November months see the Thai south region getting drenched from the northeast monsoon rains. Southern Thailand is superbly connected with the rest of the country by road, rail and sea links. Regular buses leave from Bangkok's southern bus terminal to the southern provinces. The southern railway links south Thailand to Bangkok city.
