Gulf of Thailand

The Gulf of Thailand borders the South China Sea. The Gulf is bordered politically by Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. The Thai gulf is also known as the Gulf of Siam.

The Gulf of Thailand comprises a huge area covering 320,000 square kilometers. The northern boundary of the gulf is the Bay of Bangkok. The Bay of Bangkok is near Bangkok at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River. The Gulf of Thailand extends from Cape Bai Bung in southern Vietnam to the Malaysian coastal city of Kota Baru. The tropical weather of the region has encouraged the growth of coral reefs. This natural phenomenon is a prime attraction of adventure keen tourists from all over the world. The Thai gulf has several diving resorts. The most popular tourist resort in the region is the island of Ko Samui in Surat Thani province.

The Thailand gulf is a shallow body of water. The maximum depth of the water is 80 meters. The mean depth of the Thai gulf is only 45 meters. The water is rich in sediments. The salinity of the gulf is also low. This is due to the inflow of fresh water from the rivers flowing into the sea. The Gulf of Thailand has considerable economic importance. The gulf contains oil and natural gas resources.
