Championships at Wimbledon or Wimbledon , as it is commonly known, is the greatest among the grand slam tennis tournaments and is regarded as the greatest competition of tennis on earth. The Wimbledon tennis tournament is played on grass courts and is usually held in the month of June and July. In the coming edition in 2007, the best players from across the world will scorch the green courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London from the 25 th of June to the 8 th of July. The Ladies' Singles has Amelie Mauresmo as the defending champion and Bob and Mike Bryan are the current champions of the Gentleman's Doubles. The Chinese pair of Zi Yan and Zheng Jie won the Ladies' Doubles championship in 2006 while Andy Ram and Vera Zvonareva captured the Mixed Doubles crown the same year. Some of the great names associated with the Wimbledon are Pete Sampras, Bjorn Borg, Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf.
