US Open

US Open, the last and the final Grand Slam tennis tournament of a tennis calendar, is usually held in the Flushing Meadows-Corona Park of New York City. The matches of the tournament, played on the acrylic hard courts, are usually held for two weeks in the months of August and September. The tournament has the championships for men's singles and doubles, women's singles and doubles and the mixed doubles. There are also tournaments for the seniors, juniors and the wheelchair players. With a draw size of 128, the tournament is one of the largest events of world tennis. The 2007 edition of the tournament is scheduled to be held from the 27 th of August to the 9 th of September with prize money adding up to US$7,950,000. The Tournament Director for the 2007 edition of the US Open tennis is going to be Arlen Kantarian.

The different championships of the US Open has had a number of famous as well as a few inexperienced players as the champions. The defending champions include Roger Federer in men's singles, Maria Sharapova in the women's singles and the pair of Martina Navratilova and Bob Bryan in the mixed doubles. The defending men's doubles champions in the US Open are Leander Paes and Martin Damm while in the women's doubles sections the pair of Nathalie Dechy and Vera Zvonareva lifted the trophy. Some of the men players to have won the singles championship are Richard D. Sears, William Larned, Bill Tilden, John McEnroe, Ivan Lendl, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer. Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles and Venus Williams are a few women's singles champions.
