Tennis Masters Cup

Tennis Masters Cup is one of the major tournaments under the ATP or the Association of Tennis Professionals which involves the top eight players of the tennis world facing each other in the high profile year-ending tournament. Instead of being a knockout tournament, the tournament follows a group league format. The eight players are placed in two groups of four players each. After the group league games, the two best players from each group advance to the semifinals from where the knockout stage starts. The coming edition of the tournament will be played in Shanghai, which has hosted it thrice before. The prize money for this edition, scheduled to be played from the 11 th to the 18 th of November, is going to be $4,450,000.

The Tennis Masters Cup is the third version of a tournament called The Masters which started in 1970 and lasted till 1989. It came to be known as the ATP Tour World Championships in 1999 and again in 2000 had its name changed to its present one, the Tennis Masters Cup. It has been played in Shanghai, Houston, Sydney and Lisbon. Some of the players to have won the tournament are Roger Federer, Gustavo Kuerten, Lleyton Hewitt and David Nalbandian.
