SAP Open is a tennis tournament played among the male tennis players across the globe. SAP Open is part of the International Series Tournaments , which is included in the schedule of the Association of Tennis Professionals or ATP Tour . The tournament is held every year at San Jose in California. SAP Open was staged for the first time in 1889. Since then, the tournament has been held regularly.
SAP Open was started in 1889 as the Pacific Coast Championship . The event is considered to be one of the oldest tennis tournaments held in the United States of America. SAP Open is played on indoor hard court. In the initial days, women's competition was also included in the schedule of SAP Open . However, at present only men's competitions are held during the tournament. The 2007 SAP Open was held between February 12 and February 18. Thirty two players participated in the competition, which followed the 32 draws pattern. The winners of the 2007 SAP Open were given away prize money worth $ 416,000.

William “Bill” Johnston, Fred Perry, Don Budge, Bobby Riggs, Ted Schroeder, Tony Trabert, Barry MacKay, Stan Smith, Arthur Ashe, John McEnroe , Ivan Lendl, Michael Chang, Andre Agassi , Pete Sampras , Mark Philippoussis and Andy Roddick are some of the renowned tennis players, who have won during the SAP Open at various points of their careers. During the 2007 SAP Open , singles title was won by Andy Murray , while Eric Butorac and Jamie Murray were the winners of the doubles competition. Peter Fleming and John McEnroe have won the doubles title at the SAP Open on six occasions.
