Pro Tennis Tournaments

Pro Tennis Tournaments are the tournaments held in the world of professional tennis players. Tennis has been played as a sport since a long time. It has emerged as a modern event during the mid nineteenth century. In the twentieth century, with the beginning of the Open era, the sport received the status of a professional sport. Since then, numerous pro tennis tournaments are organized every year among the professional tennis players.

The International Tennis Federation or the ITF is the international ruling body of professional tennis circuit. Two associated bodies, the Association of Tennis Professionals or the ATP and the Women's Tennis Association or the WTA are authorized to govern the men's and women's circuit respectively. There are other organizations also, which have been established with the aim of governing the professional domain of tennis. One such organization is the United States Tennis Association or the USTA. All these organizations arrange various pro tennis tournaments throughout the year.


Australian Open , French Open , US Open and Wimbledon Championships are four most prestigious tournaments held in the world of professional tennis . Some of the other tournaments recognized as pro tennis tournaments are Bank of the West Tennis, Bausch&Lomb Championships, Compaq Grandslam Cup, Copa Del Cafe, Croatian Indoors, Davis Cup, Dubai Tennis Open, Ericsson Open, Eurocard Open, Kremlin Kup, Mercedes-Benz Cup, Monte Carlo Open, Newsweek Champions Cup, Peach 2000, Pilot Pen Tennis Tour, River Oaks Intl Tennis Tour, Sybase Open, Tennis Masters Series and Worldwide Senior Tennis Circuit. Some of these tournaments are included in the ATP and WTA Tour schedules. In all the pro tennis tournaments , winners are given certain amount of prize money along with the trophy. In the pro tennis tournaments included in the ATP or WTA Tour schedules, winners are given points on the basis of their performance in the event. These points determine their position on the world ranking
