Maria Yuryevna Sharapova, or Maria Sharapova Tennis player, as she is popular as, is a professional tennis player of Russian origin and also the highest-paid female athlete in the world. She was born on 19 th April, 1987 in Nyagan, a year after her parents migrated from Homyel in Belarus to Siberia , Russia. She was brought to the United States of America by her father at the age of seven to attend the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy . It is the place where she still lives, though she retains her Russian nationality. She is coached by Michael Joyce who, along with Sharapova's father, has given rise to controversies by coaching Maria from sidelines during several matches. In spite of all the controversies she has been involved in, there is no denying the fact that Maria Sharapova is one of the best players women's tennis circuit has ever had.
Sharapova has had a number of titles to his name in her career already. She was awarded the Women's Tennis Association or the WTA Newcomer of the Year in 2003 and the WTA Player of the Year in 2004. She has till now won fifteen singles titles in her career including two Grand Slams - the US Open in 2006 and the Wimbledon in 2004. She has also been triumphant in three women's doubles tournaments.
